This wedding was a beautiful international celebration between a Japanese bride and a Singaporean groom, held at Shangri-La Singapore. The couple currently resides in Japan, so most of the preparation was done remotely.
They visited Singapore two months before the wedding for a trial session, and we continued to refine the looks through messages and video calls to ensure every detail matched their vision.
The bride requested two hair and makeup looks on the wedding day:
- Look 1: A cute style with a large ribbon
- Look 2: A different look from the first, with a more sophisticated, evening-appropriate vibe

Bride’s Requests & Key Points
Look 1 – Bride’s Request
- Makeup: Pink tones for a soft, cute atmosphere
- Hair: Half-up with a ribbon
Look 2 – Stylist Suggestion
- Makeup: Orange tones for a chic, fashionable look
- Hair: Updo with orchids and gold leaf
– A contrast to the first look, designed to suit the evening setting
Challenges / Considerations
- Bride prefers light makeup, avoiding heavy looks
- Slight color difference between face and neck
- Straight permed hair, so maintaining volume and curls was a key point

Hair & Makeup on the Day
Look 1 – Soft & Elegant Bride Style
- Makeup: Soft pink to create a gentle, cute impression
- Hair: Half-up style with ribbon, giving a delicate, refined look
– Perfect for pre-ceremony photos and the veil-down moment

Look 2 – Sophisticated Evening Style
- Makeup: Orange tones for dimension and fashion-forward impression
- Hair: Updo with orchids, mizuhiki and gold leaf for a modern, unique style
– Elegant and striking under reception lighting, creating a completely different impression from Look 1

Mizuhiki are traditional Japanese decorative cords often used for gifts and celebrations. In Japan, they are popular for wedding hairstyles, often paired with gold leaf when wearing a kimono, adding a touch of elegance and cultural charm.
