Before the Big Day|An Eye Makeup Lesson at a Bridal Shower in Singapore

Preparing for a wedding is an exciting time for any bride.
Alongside dress fittings and beauty preparations, many brides in Singapore also celebrate with a bridal shower—a special gathering shared with close friends and loved ones.

In this article, I’d like to share a behind-the-scenes look at a group eye makeup lesson held as part of a bridal shower, and how makeup can become both a learning experience and a meaningful memory.

What Is a Bridal Shower?

A bridal shower is a pre-wedding celebration where the bride gathers with close friends or family to enjoy quality time together before the big day.
Originating in Western cultures such as the US and Europe, bridal showers often include games, gift-giving, light food, and champagne.

In Singapore, bridal showers are popular among friends who want a relaxed yet meaningful way to celebrate the bride—often hosted at home or in a private space, with activities tailored to the group’s interests.

Inside the Eye Makeup Lesson

For this bridal shower, I held a 90-minute eye makeup lesson with the bride and her four bridesmaids—five people in total.

I had previously met the bride and one of the bridesmaids (who kindly hosted the event) during a bridal hair and makeup trial, so it was lovely to see familiar faces again in a more relaxed, celebratory setting.

During the lesson, I worked with each participant individually, offering guidance based on facial features and personal colouring.
The session focused on:

  • Reviewing everyday makeup habits
  • Identifying and adjusting unconscious makeup “habits”
  • Learning how to use existing makeup tools and products more effectively

When questions were answered, techniques finally made sense, or small changes led to visible results, their expressions lit up.
Seeing that moment of realisation and confidence is always one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

Why Group Makeup Lessons Are So Special

One of the biggest benefits of a group makeup lesson is the sense of comfort and ease.
Learning alongside close friends creates a relaxed atmosphere, where everyone can enjoy the process without pressure.

That’s why group lessons are often chosen for:

  • Bridal showers
  • Girls’ gatherings
  • Small private celebrations

Makeup becomes not just a skill to learn, but a shared experience—full of laughter, conversation, and encouragement.

A Memorable Closing Moment

After the lesson, we wrapped up the afternoon with a champagne toast and photos together.
Being invited to take part in such an important celebration meant a great deal to me, and I felt truly grateful to share that time with them.

It was a warm, joyful moment—one that perfectly captured the spirit of a bridal shower and reminded me how beauty, learning, and connection can come together so naturally.
